Aid & Texas vouchers

Can you combine school aid with a Texas voucher?

School aid and TEFA may both contribute, but do not assume they simply stack. A school may consider a TEFA award when setting need-based assistance. Ask for the aid amount that applies after the school reviews your funding.

Get two clear figures

Ask for your total billed costs and confirmed school aid after the school accounts for TEFA. Then check the actual award and eligible expenses in your program account. Use those figures, rather than a maximum advertised award.

Keep discounts and need-based aid separate

Texas guidance distinguishes generally available discounts from financial assistance tailored to a family. Ask whether a sibling, employee, or parishioner discount applies and whether any need-based offer has been recalculated.

Budget without a pending award

A waitlist position or a future application is not funding. Build a no-voucher budget first, then use a clearly labeled hypothetical scenario to understand how an eventual award could change costs. Do not commit to tuition based only on that scenario.

Ask for a written explanation

Before paying a deposit, request the school’s policy on award timing, aid changes, refunds, and withdrawal. Our calculator helps organize the numbers; the school and program make the actual decisions.

  • Does TEFA change my school aid offer?
  • Which charges can the program pay?
  • What happens if my award arrives late or changes?
